Volunteer Website Project Manager - Pet Cancer Fund

We Are:

The Pet Cancer Fund is a Vancouver-based organization whose mission is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. 

Estimates suggest the number of dogs and cats developing cancer every year is 12 million; roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. 

More needs to be done and as we set out to build a landmark new website for pet owners, we need an experienced website project manager to lead the effort. That’s where and how you can help us! 


The position:

We are searching for a volunteer, Website Project Manager (working virtually), to lead the project planning and construction of a new website for our organization. You will lead a team of Drupal developers and UX/UI designers in this effort, while liaising with our content and brand teams for their respective roles in the project.

In this role you should have a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills. If you are also experienced in programming (relevant languages), it would be an asset to the project. 



  • Liaise with all levels of staff necessary to ensure our website project plan is exhaustive, containing dates and milestones aligned to the launch schedule 

  • Contribute where necessary to the Project Management Office efforts to maintain the Project Charter, Project Schedule, RACI and the Risk Register 

  • Assist in managing workloads with team leaders including project resourcing and coordination 

  • Collaborate in discovery process for new website features and functionality 

  • Collaborate with internal department stakeholders & project managers to ensure our new design is inclusive of our organizational goals 

  • Create, update and maintain a detailed project plan aligned to organizational dates and milestones 

  • Collaborate with our Creative Director to ensure our overall brand/style guide is aligned across our web properties 

  • Collaborate as needed with any 3rd party producers (digital asset creators, photographers, video producers, etc.) to maintain design consistency across all web properties 

  • Attend meetings/conference calls and prepare agendas for meeting prior to 

  • Track project status; create and update timelines, prepare progress reports, communicate obstacles and opportunities 

  • Ensure end-to-end delivery of project 

  • Ensure project is delivered based on agreed scope and agreed timeline 

  • Considered as a subject matter expert on practices, procedures and principles of project management. 

  • Manage projects through Project Management Life Cycle including Start Well (Planning), Manage Well (Control) and End Well (Execution and Closure). 


About You:

You have at least 5-7 years’ experience in similar roles and have the highest of standards, taking great pride in your work. Further, you are extremely detail-oriented and proud of being a perfectionist when it comes to your projects. You have:

A PMI Certification would be an asset. PMP, PMI-ACP or CAPM are all relevant.

Being a team player with great communication and people skills is an absolute must.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer or IT related field preferred desired skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills

  • Very organized and able to work under tight deadlines; time management skills are essential

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies

  • Provide technical architecture leadership in relation to new project discovery, design, development, and deployment

  • Solid technical understanding of application development and web technologies

  • Understanding of data structure methodologies, technologies, and standards

  • Knowledge of User Experience & User Interaction theory

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite

  • Logical and analytical approach to critical thinking and problem solving

  • Good people person with a positive attitude

  • Collaborative team player

  • Confidence to tackle issues swiftly, professionally, & autonomously

  • Must work well under pressure

  • This position is virtual and can be completed from anywhere in Canada or the United States.

  • This is a volunteer position and the time commitment is approximately 8 -10 hours per week. 

  • This project is deadline dependent and will require more hours at times; flexibility is a must.

  • This is a volunteer position that could potentially lead into other roles within the organization.
