The role of the Pathways Tutor is to provide academic support and to engage in positive role modeling for youth during program time.  

Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Understand the challenges to high-school success the participants face with the ability to maintain a positive and upbeat demeanor with all youth

  • Participate consistently in online tutoring sessions, working both one-on-one and in small groups assisting students with academic tasks/homework

  • Successfully complete online orientation, safety sessions and programmatic and Anti-Oppression training

  • Availability of a minimum of 1.5 hours a week during the school year


  • Previous experience and/or interest in working with youth

  • Ability to build rapport, make connections, motivate and develop trust

  • Be a high school graduate and/or enrolled in post-secondary institution and have expertise in core subjects including: English, French, Math, History, Social Studies, Business and Science

  • Develop study strategies, organizational, time management skills, actively engage and encourage students

  • Valid police reference check is mandatory

The role of a Pathway’s Mentor is to provide social support and to engage in positive motivational role modeling and skills building opportunities for youth during program time. 

Mentor Responsibilities:
*Experience working with grade 9 & 10 high school students 
*Appropriately role modeling and providing skills building opportunities
*Provide and facilitate engaging recreational, creative, artistic, and cultural activities 
*Work effectively within a team environment and confidently lead small groups of youth in weekly activities
*Share knowledge about the challenges youth face and gain awareness of community issues
*Have previous experiences and/or an interest in working with youth in a constructive and meaningful manner
*Ability to facilitate group discussions, games, sports and/or arts based activities
*Have some creative ability, hobbies, interests, or knowledge to make connections with youth
*Aware of youth issues and the challenges in Scarborough priority areas to respond in a culturally sensitive, competent, non-judgmental and open-minded manner
*Demonstrate compassion and understanding towards the youth
