The Pet Cancer Fund is a Vancouver-based organization whose vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. 

Estimates suggest the number of dogs and cats developing cancer every year is 12 million; roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. 

More needs to be done and as we set out to build a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help our furry friends, we need Training and Development professionals to help promote continuous improvement across the organization

About the Position

The volunteer Training Specialist plays a key role in to enhance the competencies of individual volunteers by designing and conducting training programs that will boost volunteer performance in alliance with organization’s core values. The Specialist will be responsible for performing training needs assessments, designing and delivering curriculum and learning materials and for managing all phases of training interventions. The Training Specialist will continuously seek to improve the Training and Development programs, incorporating lessons and feedback from various stakeholders, to support the evolving needs of the organization.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct training need analysis and identify learning gaps 

  • Translate needs into training programs that will prepare volunteers for a successful experience 

  • Ensure update of training programs and alignment with organizational strategy

  • Develop handouts, instructional materials, aids and manuals as needed

  • Deliver virtual training courses and create training videos

  • Assess training effectiveness to ensure incorporation of taught skills into volunteers’ work behavior

  • Contribute to the development of a volunteer performance appraisal system

  • Provide quality control to the training materials designed by others

  • Participate in other talent development initiatives as needed

  • Stay abreast of the new trends and tools in volunteer development


About You:

You are well-versed in the design of Training and Development programs and have strong analytical skills to carry out needs analysis and research that result into best practices. You are an excellent communicator and enjoy working with various stakeholders to support them with their HR needs. You are collaborative in nature and strive to deliver integrated Training and Development program in partnership with other HR professionals.  You have:

  • A degree or certificate in Human Resources Management or a related field with a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role;

  • Experience running virtual trainings on Zoom or similar platforms 

  • Experience developing basic online training modules 

  • Excellent facilitation skills

  • Experience developing HR programs and supporting processes and tools, 

  • Exposure to micro-learning is an asset

  • A high standard of professionalism, including in matters of ethics and confidentiality;

  • Strong client-service orientation.

  • This position is virtual and can be completed from anywhere in Canada or the United States.

  • This is a volunteer position and the time commitment is approximately 4-6 hours per week. 

  • Some projects are deadline dependent and may require more hours from time to time, flexibility is a must.

  • This is a volunteer position that could potentially lead into other roles within the organization.
