About the Pet Cancer Fund

The Pet Cancer Fund is a Vancouver-based organization whose vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. 

Estimates suggest the number of dogs and cats developing cancer every year is 12 million; roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. 

More needs to be done and as we set out to build a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help our furry friends, we need Human Resources professionals to help in the administration of our organization.

About the Position

The volunteer Onboarding Facilitator is responsible for delivering virtual orientation training sessions to welcome new volunteers to the organization. The Facilitator organizes the sessions and also supports the team in creating new onboarding materials. 


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Deliver virtual orientation sessions to new volunteers, acting as a facilitator, to begin the onboarding process by sharing general information about the organization, its mandate and its work processes.

  • Coordinate logistics to ensure orientation sessions are delivered in accordance with the predetermined schedule and confirm that all new volunteers have selected a date to participate in the session so they receive the information soon after joining the organization.

  • Create the orientation session schedule 2-4 weeks in advance in collaboration with other Onboarding Facilitator(s) by following the schedule requirements to ensure they sessions are offered when required by the organization.

  • Inform stakeholders, such as the Training & Development team and hiring managers, when new volunteers have completed the orientation session.

  • Support the Co-Lead with the design and development of the onboarding program and in the creation of various materials such as the orientation presentation, the onboarding plan, process flows, etc.

  • Provide general support to the team, including the maintenance of shared organizational files, conducting research into onboarding and HR best practices, and carrying out various administrative tasks.


About You

You have excellent facilitation skills and enjoy delivering virtual information sessions to groups with a varied background/professional training. You are a highly resourceful team-player who enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders, but who can also work effectively independently. You exercise good judgement in a variety of situations and are able to think on your feet to solve problems and answer all kinds of questions from stakeholders.  You have:

  • A degree or certificate in Human Resources Management or a related field with a minimum of 6 months to 1 years’ experience in a similar role (recent graduates are encouraged to apply!);

  • Experience delivering information and/or training sessions;

  • Knowledge of Pet Cancer Fund, its mandate, organizational structure, culture and work processes to respond to questions from new volunteers;

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Documents and video conferencing/peer-to-peer platforms such as Zoom;

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize tasks seamlessly, with excellent attention to detail;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with various stakeholders including colleagues in the onboarding and orientation team, the broader HR team and with clients;

  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving and ability to meet deadlines;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with new volunteers and facilitate orientation sessions.

  • This is a volunteer position that could potentially lead into other roles within the organization.
