Maternity Today is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing evidence and resources with communities, health care workers in developing countries. Our office is located in Ottawa, Canada but receives support from global health experts around the world. Our key priority areas include improving the midwifery profession and institutional delivery, adolescent health, community mobilization, and advocacy. Maternity Today is seeking to recruit a volunteer Journal Editors.
The Global Maternal and Child Health Journal is an electronic, open-access peer-reviewed journal that publishes research articles on a broad range of topics related to maternal and child health. It covers a broad range of disciplines including obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive health, pediatrics, neonatology, nutrition, family planning, developmental psychology, sociology, demography, epidemiology, public health, and preventive medicine. The journal addresses such topics as social determinants of health and disease and disparities in communicable and non-communicable diseases burden affecting the health of infants, children, women, adolescents, and families across the lifespan.
The qualified candidate will provide expertise in copyediting, styling, proofreading, and revising of professional public health communications at the highest level, consistent with internal and industry standards and author/client preferences. He/she will manage the online submission of manuscripts and abstracts to scientific/medical journals and meetings; handle copyright permissions for assigned projects; assist with data-checking upon request; and work with graphic designers on layout and formatting of materials such as slide decks, posters, figures, and brochures from approval of final content through to final delivery; Collaborate with other departments to create innovative content ideas
University degree or certificate program (or equivalent) in international development, health informatics, public health research, developmental psychology, sociology, demography, epidemiology, medicine, nursing, midwifery, and experience in reviewing manuscripts or marketing, communications, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a non-profit, health facilities or acadamic environment
Strong writer with the ability to inspire target audiences
Demonstrated knowledge of UN Sustainable Development Goal strategies
Demonstrated project coordination skills, with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Have a public health research interests in common with the Mission & Scope of the journal
Level of Commitment - Very flexible we will work with your schedule. Work online, home based 7-8 hours / week
