Volunteer at Advocating Young Minds (AYM) After-School Program - Advocating Young Minds
Advocating Young Minds is a program of Sandwich Teen Action Group that provides support to children and families in West Windsor. AYM is an after-school program for children aged 5-13 to foster academic and social-emotional learning. The program is devoted to connecting children with positive spaces, opportunities and mentors in their communities. AYM is located in the St. Joseph social housing community making it accessible to families who are living in low-income.
AYM is looking for volunteers who want to engage with children in a positive and impactful way. Volunteers will gain experience with children from various backgrounds, age groups and learning levels, particularly Newcomer families. Volunteers are encouraged to develop positive relationships with children and families through mentorship and facilitating social-emotional and academic activities. Duties may also include preparing nightly meals, helping clean the space, maintaining group cohesion, promoting positive behaviour, facilitating recreation and sport activities, and more. Volunteers will receive free training to have the ability to foster skill development and promote positive behaviour of children. The program will be running Mondays - Thursdays from 4:30 to 7pm beginning in September 2020. We are looking for volunteers who can make a commitment to volunteer consistently one day a week until June 2021. A vulnerable sector police clearance is required. Previous experience with children and the ability to speak a second language is an asset.
