Supported Recovery Room Staff - Afternoon/Overnight Rotations - Welcome In Drop In Centre

Supportive Recovery Rooms (SRR) offer a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have recently experienced a crisis or are at risk of involvement with the criminal justice system to rest and recover in.  Individuals who access these beds may be experiencing homelessness, chronic addiction and mental health issues and/or involvement with the criminal justice system. Staff will provide support to 3 SRR beds and 2 safe beds, which are prioritized for police referrals.  The SRR staff will work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team consisting of a clinician and a nurse to support individuals who access this service by ensuring an environment that is conducive to safety and recovery, while offering connections to community supports.

This program will act as part of an intentional community response to safely providing wrap-around supports to vulnerable people in our community, as the landscape of homelessness in Guelph continues to shift in relation to the global pandemic.

Supporting Clients Accessing the SRR (50%):

  • Clinician, nurse and SRR staff will have daily huddles where they determine the SRR and safe bed focused clients for the day and associated tasks based on referrals from shelter manager and community partners. SRR-related interventions will include:
    •  Accurately assessing and screening clients on intake to ensure SRR bed criteria is met
    • Providing direct support and supervision to 3 SSR and 2 safe bed clients with a focus on recovery from mental health and addiction-related crises 
    • Connecting/collaborating with clients’ primary support and working with the client’s support team to develop and modify an SRR support plan at the shelter
    • As part of the SRR multi-disciplinary team, assisting the clients with skills development (in the following areas as opportunities are available): crisis support and counselling, assistance with self-sufficiency in daily living skills, housing searches advocacy & referrals to community-based support services
    • Providing support for the appropriate use of client’s own medication(s)
    • Ensuring discharge assessment are documented adequately and according to program standards
    • Attending staff and agency meetings as required

Supporting Operational Processes of the SRR (Pertains to the entire space and client population) (50%):

Day Shift:

  • Deliver all meals to each of the SRR at mealtimes
  • Supporting clients with laundry and personal hygiene
  • Maintenance of the facility including maintaining health and safety standards and routine cleaning
  • Documenting relevant information according to agency and program requirements including shift logs, incident reports and support plan updates.
  • Participate in weekly Drop-In staff meeting at 8am on Thursdays

Overnight Shift:

  • Conduct overnight perimeter checks with front desk station employee at (insert 3 or 4 different times) 
  • Regularly check hallways and stairways and ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of these areas
  • Maintenance of the facility including maintaining health and safety standards and routine cleaning
  • Documenting relevant information according to agency and program requirements including shift logs, incident reports and support plan updates
