Organizational Profile 

Community Living Mississauga is a non-profit organization, which provides support to people who have an intellectual disability so that their quality of life in the community is meaningfully improved.

Description of Program

The Futures Program provides young adults who have an intellectual disability, ages 16-21, with a summer program option that combines both work experience and recreational activities.  The program will provide young adults with opportunities to gain some valuable work experience through volunteering and to participate in fun-filled summer activities in their community.  Young adults will participate in employment readiness workshops then spend the remainder of the day either volunteering to gain practical work experience or enhancing social skills by participating in recreational activities in the community, using public transportation to get to and from the activities. 

Key Responsibilities

The Supervisor of the Futures Program will develop and secure volunteer and work experience positions for the youth, assist in developing the virtual work-readiness workshops, coordinate a schedule for staff and young adults, supervise a team of staff, facilitate weekly team meetings, assist in staff training, carry out administrative and record-keeping responsibilities, prepare a final report and above all, promote the inclusion of youth into community activities.  The Supervisor must be comfortable providing personal care support, participating in all activities with the participants including swimming, and be physically fit to perform the essential duties of the job including performing lifts and transfers as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Developmental Services Worker Diploma or enrolled and actively pursuing this diploma                     
  • Have experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability
  • Valid driver's license and use of a car
  • Valid Emergency First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Supervisory experience is an asset
Equivalency
  • Social Services Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker Diploma, or a university degree in a related discipline
  • Have experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability 
Asset
  • Fluent in French
  • Aptitude to learn quickly and independently
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude along with excellent teamwork
