Residential Counsellor, Unscheduled Part-time/Relief - Massey Centre for Women

Massey Centre (“the Centre”) is an award-winning, accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre that is a multi-service, non-profit, unionized, community agency located in the east end of Toronto.  The Centre is committed to nurturing empowerment, independence and growth for young pregnant and parenting women, children and families in a non-judgmental, inclusive environment by providing a residential care and treatment program; supportive transitional housing; on-site high school program, community housing support and referral services; and maternal infant mental health programs and services. We do this by working collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team with community partners to provide holistic programs and support that respond to mental health, education and transitional needs. The Centre is the lead EarlyON Child and Family Centre agency in the Toronto-Danforth riding and also operates an Early Learning Centre.  All the programs and services are open to families, young women and their children living in the broader community.

Massey Centre has openings for Unscheduled Part time/Relief Residential Counsellors to provide client supervision to residents in the Residential Program, with specific attention to life-skills training and preparation for independent living.  

Positions:

Residential Counsellor, Unscheduled Part-time/Relief 

Rate of Pay:

$18.12 / hour 

Department:

Residential and Transitional Housing Program

Reports to:

Manager, Integrated Residential and Transitional Housing

Qualification:

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or Bachelor’s degree
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and CPI
  • At least one (1) year related experience.
  • General knowledge of the developmental needs of children and youth
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work as part of team as well as independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to write and document clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work using a collaborative approach
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act Legislation in residential settings.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and behavior management
  • Awareness and experience of cultural diversity
  • Good computer skills and ability to effectively use and record information in data management system

Working Condition:

  • Unscheduled and works on a call-in basis
  • Physical demands – lifting, walking, climbing stairways, bending, carrying items as required by program needs (e.g., lifting a child under in the care of the program).
