Recruitment & Employee Relations Specialist - Christian Horizons - West District

Founded in 1965, Christian Horizons is a non-profit, faith-based charitable organization supporting people with disabilities in Canada and around the world. With over 3,500 employees, Christian Horizons supports nearly 2,000 people with developmental disabilities and their families. Christian Horizons supports people within their communities throughout Ontario and Saskatchewan. Internationally, Christian Horizons works in partnership with local organizations to promote the inclusion and rights of people with disabilities in six developing countries.

Recruitment and Employee Relations Specialist

(40 hours/week) 

West District Team

Reporting to the District Services Manager, the Recruitment and Employee Relations Specialist (RERS) provides education and support to District level recruitment and employee relations processes, including job competitions, internal employee relations communications, new manager training and orientation, health and safety networking councils, and the Employee Engagement and Representation model, promoting best practices. Expected to fully embrace the Christian Faith Foundation of the organization, the RERS will permeate Christian Horizons’ Values, Mission and Vision and act as a representative of Christ with all contacts and dealings internal and external to the organization.


  • College Diploma in Human Resources or related field, with one to two years of relevant work experience; ideally in a social service organization.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Human Resources legislation as it relates to recruitment and selection, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations, is required for success in this position.
  • Excellent presentation skills are required for success in this role, as you will be preparing and delivering presentations within the Christian community, promoting the faith foundation of Christian Horizons, and providing training and coaching to managers and employees around hiring best practices.
  • Valid G-class Ontario Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation as you will be required to travel frequently throughout the West District to conduct interviews and attend meetings. Travel mileage incurred will be reimbursed in accordance with Christian Horizons’ Finance policy.

Location: Home base will be our office in Waterloo, ON (specific geography to be determined for community supported; will require regular travel to conduct interviews and attend meetings, including occasional overnight to attend conferences).
