Maternity Today is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing evidence and resources with communities, health care workers in developing countries. Our office is located in Ottawa, Canada but receives support from global health experts around the world. Our key priority areas include improving the midwifery profession and institutional delivery, adolescent health, community mobilization, and advocacy. Maternity Today is seeking to recruit a volunteer Program Manager. 

Program support

  • Develop annual operational plans, incorporating goals and objectives that work towards the organization’s strategic direction 

  • Support program design ideation and implementation

  • Track and share regular progress updates on project and program deliverables and outcomes

  • Identify, evaluate and prioritize internal and external risks to the organization and develop and implement measures to mitigate or control identified risks

  • Oversee and  assist the chief Editor for  the implementation of the Global Health Journal

  • Coordinate proposal/grant modifications and submissions, including the writing, review and feedback from  Maternity Today team to obtain approvals and helping to ensure complete proposal packages

  • Work with the social media manager to proactively identify opportunities to engage in social media, draft and/or revise position statements and infographics, and utilize other communications outlets to raise the visibility of the Maternity Today 

  •  Identify opportunities and engage in building relationships with family planning and reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations to improve communication and collaboration between providers

  • Assist the Executive Director as needed 

  Administrative support

  • Coordinate internal and external meetings

  • Provide executive support to the Maternity Today team

  • Coordinate the involvement of expert volunteers and consultants

  • Coordinate Board Meeting 

Communication support

  • Assist Executive Director in communicating with funders as outlined in funding agreements, including drafting reports

  • Represent the organization at community activities and networking events to enhance the organization's community profile

  • Build relationships and communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and identify changes in the communities served by the organization

  • Engage and communicate with all stakeholders. Liaise with partners and
    represent the organization as appropriate


  • Degree in a related field plus 5 or more years of progressive management experience in nonprofit or international development, Pubic Health or business management 

  • Solid understanding of the Sustainable Development Goal 

  • Excellent budget management skills, including experience tracking expenses and developing spending plans

  • Proven writing and editing skills: the ability to draft memos & letters and edit reports and proposals

  •  Experience in business development for non-profit organizations, including with government and private donors

  • Creative problem-solving skills, with the proven ability to advocate and gain support from others for new ideas

  • Solid knowledge and demonstrable experience in the application of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Use of funder reporting tools

  • Have the ability to understand and maintain confidentiality 


  • LEVEL OF COMMITMENT - Very flexible we will work with your schedule. Remote work, home-based 6-8 hours/week
