Kids and Teens in Control Manager

(Full Time 37.5 Hours)

BC Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) - a provincial non-profit organization - has a vision where those affected by schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses receive effective treatment and support, and family members are an essential partner within the mental health system. Our mission is to support families affected by schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses in British Columbia through education, advocacy, and research. Founded in 1982, BCSS is a charitable society with a head office in Vancouver, BC.

BC Schizophrenia Society’s Kids and Teens in Control (KIC/TIC) programs provide education and support for children and youth ages 8 to 18 years old who have a family member with serious mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, etc.). The programs are prevention-focused and aim to foster resilience. They provide children and youth with opportunities to practice healthy coping strategies, learn about mental illness, and connect with peers who share similar experiences. 

Kids and Teens in Control Manager Position

The Kids and Teens in Control Manager is responsible for the oversight, development and province-wide delivery of the Kids and Teens in Control programs. They work closely with the Director, Operations and Programs to support the growth and evolution of the programs by building and maintaining a cohesive team of Coordinators, Facilitators, and volunteers to deliver the programs across BC.

Position reports to: Director, Operations and Programs  



  • Provides leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality programs that meet the needs of children and youth
  • Trains, mentors, and oversees the KIC/TIC team in a way that builds cohesion and encourages innovation
  • Identifies staffing needs and works with the Director, Operations and Programs to hire and train new KIC/TIC staff
  • Supports and oversees the work of contract facilitators delivering KIC/TIC programs

Program Development

  • Extends the scope and impact of the KIC/TIC programs throughout the province
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders and community partners
  • Develops and revises program measures and evaluation processes
  • Reviews program curriculum and policies and procedures regularly, and makes updates as needed
  • Identifies areas of growth for the programs (e.g., expansion into new communities, new audiences or new program content)

Budgeting and Grants

  • Works with the Director, Operations and Programs and the Financial Manager to create, manage, and maintain program budgets
  • Writes funding proposals, and works with the Director of Development to complete grant applications
  • Collects program evaluation data, writes program reports, and ensures reports are submitted to meet deadlines


  • Works with the KIC/TIC Communications Coordinator and BCSS Marketing & Communications Manager to promote the programs through promotional materials, social media, website, newsletter, and other channels
  • Responds to inquiries about the programs in a timely manner
  • Delivers presentations about the programs for funders and other stakeholders as required

Program Delivery

  • Provides support and resources to children, youth, and families through phone and email
  • Facilitates Kids and Teens in Control programs, online or in-person as needed
  • Supports KIC/TIC Coordinators with program logistics including scheduling, booking venues, and purchasing program supplies


  • Follows all BCSS policies and procedures to ensure safety and risk management
  • Any other duties as requested by the Director, Operations and Programs or CEO
  • Expected to attend the AGM and any other Societal or staff meetings as required

Education and Experience:

  • 2-4 years’ experience in a relevant management position
  • Minimum education: Degree in child and youth care, clinical or counselling psychology, social work, education, or a related field
  • Experience facilitating group programs for children and youth ages 8-18
  • Experience training, supervising, and mentoring staff and volunteers
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum, policies and procedures, and evaluation measures for child and youth programs
  • Experience in project management and managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Experience working with large budgets and multiple budgets at once
  • Experience engaging stakeholders and building community partnerships
  • Knowledge of mental illness and its impact on family members
  • Knowledge of the BC mental health system and resources for children and youth
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
  • Mental Health First Aid, and/or suicide alertness training are assets

  • Current vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must be able to work flexible hours when required, including evenings and weekends
