Summary  

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this intermediate accounting role is primarily responsible for general ledger account reconciliations and financial statement preparation for multiple residential housing developments from pre-construction through to project completion. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of accounting principles to process and analyze day-to-day accounting operations and a desire to learn and collaborate with colleagues wherever needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of monthly financial statements for multiple entities, including coordinating the provision of financial information to the development team as needed
  • Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations (bank, escrow and loan accounts)
  • Assembly of financing request packages for review by lending institutions
  • Record recurring, accrual, adjusting and inter-company entries
  • Manage the purchase order tracking and reporting system
  • Manage the set-up of and GL account structure for multiple accounting databases
  • Preparation of Government remittances i.e. HST
  • Manage CRA account set-up and maintenance
  • Assist with accounts payable processing including entering vendor invoices to the accounting system and/or on-line payment processing system
  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of accounting databases
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post- secondary diploma/degree completed
  • Working towards an accounting designation
  • 4-6 years’ experience in computerized accounting/bookkeeping with data entry experience in a high-volume environment
  • Solid experience and expertise with reconciliations
  • Previous experience in construction/real estate is an asset
  • Previous experience with web-based payment processing is an asset
  • Experience handling books for multiple companies simultaneously, an asset
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • High level proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including database applications
