HR Generalist - Volunteer - Maternity Today

Maternity Today is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing evidence and resources with communities, health care workers in developing countries. Our office is located in Ottawa, Canada but receives support from global health experts around the world. Our key priority areas include improving global health, maternal and child health,  institutional delivery, adolescent health, community mobilization, and advocacy. Maternity Today is seeking to recruit a volunteer. As our volunteer HR Generalist, you will help the organization recruiting needs for a variety of positions. 

 Your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying future hiring needs and developing job descriptions and specifications.

  • Collaborating with department managers to compile a consistent list of requirements.

  • Support recruitment strategies to attract top-level talent (creating job advertisements and postings, screening resumes, scheduling, and participating in interviews, completing candidate reference checks, creating and delivering employment offers);

  • Screening resumes in collaboration with the Manager;

  • Making first contact with candidates and performing a first phone screen to shortlist applicants;

  • Supporting the maintenance of our shared organizational files;

  • Oversee new hire orientations and onboarding practices;

  • Attracting suitable candidates through databases, online employment forums, social media, etc.

  • Completing paperwork for new hires.

  • Keeping up-to-date on current employment volunteer management and regulations and enforcing them within the company.

  • Providing recruitment reports to team managers.

About You:

Our preferred candidate will have a degree or certificate in Human Resources Management or a related field with a minimum of  3 years’ experience in a recruiting role. Strong communication skills, being professional in matters of ethics and confidentiality, and having excellent people skills are a must. Knowledge, experience, and understanding of volunteer-led organizational challenges would be a “nice to have” addition to those attributes.

Location - Home based, can be done virtually from anywhere in Canada. 

Expectations regarding a time commitment would be in the range of 6 hours per week on average.  Minimum 4 months commitments
