The Opportunity

Due to the planned internal movement and growth of our highly respected Finance Director (FD), Canada Snowboard is seeking a proven leader with business acumen, strategic savvy and fulsome finance expertise. Reporting to the Executive Director, the FD masterminds the overall financial operations of the organization, overseeing a small core group of staff to ensure effective delivery of our strategic plan through specified operational goals. Specific direction is to be provided in the areas of finance, human resources, risk management, policy development, legal, and overall business planning.

Primarily contributing leadership to an executive team across functional areas including business operations, high-performance sport and system development, the successful candidate will also work closely with a variety of stakeholders including our member associations and key funding partners. A fundamental understanding of good governance is required for working with and supporting a policy-driven Board of Directors.

Currently the greatest opportunity lies in the area of executing sound financial systems, while looking for new ways to improve as the organization scales. Ultimately, the FD will help ensure the long-term viability of Canada Snowboard while working with the board to maintain relevance within our broader community.

Targeted Fit

You are an experienced strategic finance leader and entrepreneurial thinker who will bring business expertise from within or outside of the sport industry. Ideally, you will have significant senior management experience, a relevant university degree, CPA certification, and demonstrated leadership capabilities. In that regard, you are a strong communicator in English with an ability to communicate in French, an influencer and a relationship builder who can effectively bridge between individuals and teams at all levels. Above all this, you have the ability to reconcile results demands with a caring corporate culture given your strong ethical framework.

Your strength lies in your personal attributes combined with relevant experience in a fast-paced business environment that ideally includes knowledge of the sport industry and the not-for-profit environment within understanding of ASNPO. Change management is what you do; strategic thinking and organizational aspirations you easily articulate inspires confidence; and your character built on intent, integrity and affability, facilitates building strong relationships and productive partnerships.

General KSA and Personal Qualities Requirements

Being a skilled Director, your entrepreneurial spirit, versatility and innovative approach to performance-based business operations is underpinned by:

  • Executive management experience in the interpretation of a vision and mission to set goals and then develop and implement appropriate strategies, plans and budgets to realize them;
  • People management and development skills including staffing and recruitment, organizational development, succession planning, performance management, staff training and change management;
  • Financial management acumen that ensures robust annual budget planning and monitoring, rigorous management of expenditures, strategic revenue generation and strong financial controls for prudent financial decision making;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collegial style that makes you, and others, comfortable in a variety of settings;
  • Sound decision making based on ability to think and act strategically, quickly identifying priorities and undertakings that will result in greatest impact;
  • Strong business writing, presentation and verbal communication skills in English with an ability to communicate in French but would be a huge asset;
  • Knowledge and familiarity of the overall Canadian sport system; and
  • Overall exceptional organization and planning skills with advanced proficiency with standard computer business applications.
