Executive Director - Code for Canada

Mar 17, 2021
Toronto, Ontario

The two biggest levers for improving people’s lives at scale are technology and civic leadership. Code for Canada brings them together.

There has never been a more exciting and impactful time to work in the field of civic tech and digital government. If this weren’t already true, the COVID-19 pandemic has further amplified the need for modern, user-centred government and community leadership.

Code for Canada is a national non-profit that connects government innovators with the tech, data, and design communities. By fostering collaboration between governments and civic technologists, they build products and services that improve people’s lives and enhance trust between residents and public institutions.

Code for Canada is also part of an international network of “Code for” organizations committed to helping governments to leverage new digital tools and methods.

The Executive Director is the key management leader of Code for Canada. In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the organization. Using an inclusive and collaborative leadership approach, the Executive Director inspires, aligns and empowers staff, finds and fosters external partnerships, and manages the operations of the organization. Ultimately, the Executive Director is responsible for the success of the organization and ensuring the organization's accomplishments and financial sustainability are aligned with mission, vision and strategic objectives.

As the ideal candidate, you are a respected, forward thinking individual with exceptional communication skills and experience building lasting and constructive relationships, partnerships and networks. Given that Code for Canada is on the vanguard of the civic tech movement in the country, we are seeking an Executive Director who brings experience and passion for movement-building and mission-driven organizations. You will have experience with starting new initiatives and programs as well as scaling existing ones sustainably. You are politically astute and experienced in business development, stakeholder relations, and advocacy. You excel in multi-stakeholder environments and coach teams to be innovative, imaginative, creative and inspired to achieve ambitious goals. Partners and colleagues describe you as a highly inclusive, nuanced and a big thinker who is collaborative, engaging, consistent, and responsive. Your experience in civic technology, design, and/or digital transformation would be considered an asset, as would familiarity with the application of these tools and methods to the public sector.

To apply for this unique national leadership role, please submit your application and related materials to mgaudreault@boyden.com, stating Executive Director, Code for Canada in the subject line of your e-mail.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.
