Educator/Facilitator/Trainer - Houselink Community Homes

Background and Purpose:

Houselink Community Homes has been working through an “implementation science” process with a research team to implement Guidelines of Recovery Oriented Practice by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Through this implementation science approach, a team of Houselink staff, participants and external stakeholders have worked together to implement guideline 6D “Workforce Development and Planning”. Specifically, we would like to implement a recovery training for both staff and tenants.

A successful project will deliver the following results at the close of the engagement:

  • Developed curriculum (adapting and updating previous curriculum)
  • Trained small group of tenants and staff to deliver the curriculum using a “train-the-trainer” model
  • Course run at two pilot sites by experienced facilitators and shadowed by “train-the-trainer” team
  • Follow-up coaching available for “train-the-trainer” team to run their first course at different Houselink sites

A successful recovery course will deliver the following: (insert goals for the course)

  • Ensure that Recovery knowledge is sustained and ongoing
  • Provide practical skills that staff can implement in their work and that participants can use in their friendships/communities
  • Promote power balance between staff and participants

Statement of Work: (approximately 100-130- hours total)

  • Develop curriculum
    • Meet with implementation team at Houselink and work together to adapt previous Recovery curriculum (~4-6 hours)
    • Develop lesson plans for each session (~40 hours)
  • Train-the-trainers in advance of first course session – (~2 hours)
  • Facilitate/teach the first course at two pilot sites with tenants and staff (~48 hours(=12 weeks course time at 4 hours per week (2 hours course, 2 hours prep and debrief)
  • Coaching for team of Houselink trainers as they run the second course (~4 hours (1 hour per month during second run of recovery course by train the trainers)
  • Preparation/miscellaneous (~10 hours)


  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Mental Health Recovery
  • Lived experience of mental health and/or addiction issues
  • Experience developing curriculum for adults from a diverse group with different learning styles, skills and abilities - including those with literacy challenges and limited computer access
  • Experience in course facilitation
  • Ability to work with an invested team using a consensus model
  • Experience training facilitators using a “train-the-trainer” model
  • Flexibility to travel around Toronto
