Director of Fundraising and Partnerships - Inside Out

Inside Out is a 30-year-old, not-for-profit registered charity that has brought LGBTQ communities together in celebration of the best queer film from Canada and around the world through our annual Festivals, filmmaker development initiatives, year-round events and screenings.

Reports to: Executive Director

Term: Full-time, permanent.

The Director of Fundraising and Partnerships (DFP) is responsible for leading the organization’s individual, corporate, and foundation fundraising programs. Working closely with the Executive Director, Fundraising Committee and Inside Out staff, the DFP develops, initiates and evaluates annual fundraising initiatives in alignment with the organization’s annual and long-term strategic goals in support of and in accordance with Inside Out’s mission and vision.

The current corporate fundraising portfolio includes approximately $400,000 in cash support, with $250,000+ in-kind support, and the individual giving programs and foundations portfolio is approximately $350,000. With the Executive Director, the DFP will manage key relationships and ensure retention of current partners, while developing a strategy to diversify and increase revenue.

The DFP position is an exciting opportunity to contribute leadership to an internationally recognized LGBTQ film industry organization – collaborating with people who are passionate about film and the LGBTQ communities we serve. We are seeking an energetic and innovative fundraising professional with a range of fundraising knowledge and experience, a results-driven team player and bridge- builder.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Executive Director and the Fundraising Committee, provide key leadership on all individual and corporate fundraising, ensuring both retention and growth
  • Develop, initiate and evaluate an annual fundraising plan with targets, tactics and timelines with an emphasis on donor and partner prospecting, cultivation, stewardship and recognition

  • Ensure fundraising plans encompass individual giving, private and corporate foundations; including direct appeal donation campaigns, donor cultivation and stewardship, and special event components.

  • Manage 2-4 direct reports, including Membership and Patron Services staff in carrying out day-to-day stewardship and administrative activities

  • Ensure the smooth running of necessary operational systems, including the DonorPerfect fundraising database

  • Continually generate new sponsorship and major gift leads

  • Develop customized partnership proposals for new and existing partners and donors; manage relationships through all steps of the process from prospecting to on-site fulfillment

  • Discover and drive strategic opportunities related to revenue generation, working with key team members to identify these opportunities

  • Represent Inside Out through participation in community activities, including collaboration with other LGBTQ non-profits and community partner

  • Work directly with Marketing team in executing annual electronic and traditional fundraising campaigns

  • Direct hospitality management and stewardship to donors and sponsors during Festivals and other events; ensure the management of relevant fulfillment team members

The qualified candidate should possess the following skills and/or qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience demonstrated success in individual and / or corporate fundraising and donor management

  • Demonstrated success soliciting and securing gifts of $10,000 or more

  • Demonstrated ability to manage annual giving campaigns

  • Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines, Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Codes of Conduct and other guidelines and best practices governing non-profit organizations ensuring that all fundraising activities and policies comply with ethical principles and legal standards.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with fundraising theory and practice, and statistical and evaluative reporting

  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of donor management software (Inside Out uses DonorPerfect)

  • Excellent customer service, hospitality and relationship management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail

  • Strong project management skills

  • Initiative, perseverance, and a passion for social justice

  •  Commitment to and experience working within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework, with experience working with diverse communities

  • Knowledge of the film festival sector and the film industry

Additional Assets include the following:

  •  Experience working in a small fundraising shop and an arts organization

  • Experience in a Mac environment

  • CFRE designation
