STAND Canada is a national advocacy organization that advocates to make preventing and ending genocide a cornerstone of Canadian foreign and domestic policy. We are dedicated to providing Canadians with the educational and advocacy tools that they need to take action toward a world without genocide.

As a Deputy Communications Director - Social Media, you are responsible for helping to coordinate the final editing and production of STAND’s deliverables (from blog entries, to policy posts, to newsletters, website materials, etc.). You will have very strong graphics and digital media skills to focus on social media engagement. 

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Coordinate the promotion of STAND’s policies and initiatives through social media

  • Undergo efforts to grow our mailing list and social media following

  • Ensure social media schedule is maintained such that the STAND Twitter and Facebook accounts are always sharing appropriate content as well as the most recent blog and policy material that has been published on STAND’s website. Ensure interaction among the social media team to avoid duplication of material/content.

  • Oversee graphics and infographics development for use by other STAND entities as supporting documentation (ie advocacy one-pagers, campaign updates for the website, header images for social media, etc).

  • Track and report on STAND website and social media traffic and engagement to Directors Team

  • Support other STAND divisions in creating graphic materials, promoting STAND events and content through social media (ie local chapters’ events)

  • Maintain consistent focus on STAND content and presentation guidelines in curating content for the website and STAND social media accounts. Ensure that the quality of materials is maintained to appropriate standards, that proper citations and credit are given, and that formatting and tagging is done properly and with the aim of maximizing interaction with our online audience.

  • Ensure urgent news updates on any topics related to STAND, but especially related to our focus regions and active and past campaigns, is shared as quickly as possible through STAND social media sources

  • Maintain a consistent visual identity of STAND Canada’s brand across all public material, including logo creation and social media graphics (e.g. timeline photos)

  • Communicate with and respond to STAND Directors’ emails and messages in a timely manner (within 48 hours)

  • Conduct regular media scans; apprise Director of emerging issues related to STAND’s priority areas

Who we’re looking for:

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Outstanding proofreading and editing skills

  • Ability to stay abreast of current events related to STAND

  • Ability to coordinate team members in different time zones

  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner (no more than 48 hours) with STAND members across Canada through the internet and by telephone.

  • Attend weekly Directors’ meetings in the Director’s absence

  • Reliable, independent, with excellent time management skills - can work under deadlines with minimal supervision; and

  • Able to commit 5-10 hours per week
