STAND Canada is a national advocacy organization that advocates to make preventing and ending genocide a cornerstone of Canadian foreign and domestic policy. We are dedicated to providing Canadians with the educational and advocacy tools that they need to take action toward a world without genocide.

As a Deputy Communications Director - Content and Fundraising, you are responsible for helping to coordinate the final editing and production of STAND’s written deliverables (from blog entries, to policy posts, to newsletters, website materials, fundraising materials, etc.) You will also be responsible for helping to compile entries for STAND’s internal newsletters and external digest, and to contribute content for the website. You will have very strong editing and writing skills to focus on the content development aspect of the organization.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Newsletters and Press Releases

    • Write and edit press releases for internal and external communications purposes within 48 hours in response to current events

    • Help amalgamate contributions from other directors for STAND’s internal newsletters 

    • Help compile STAND’s external digest

    • Conduct regular media scans; apprise Director of emerging issues related to STAND’s priority areas

  • Fundraising

    • Work with the Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and Directors team to establish fundraising goals and strategies for the organization.

    • Research, and then apply to various grant sources (public and private sector, non-governmental) that are applicable to STAND Canada.

    • Organize and manage a grassroots fundraising campaign, mobilizing the resources of STAND Canada.

    • Maintain the organization’s donor database as needed.

    • Work with STAND Canada’s volunteer Directors to prepare content for electronic and web-based communications targeted to potential and current/past donors, including written materials for fundraising appeals, presentations, letters, proposals, and other materials in support of fundraising goals and strategies.

    • Provide guidance to volunteers as they approach their personal networks for donations.

  • Blog (optional)

    • Oversee editing and final publication process for Blog Writers

    • Coordinate Blog Writers to produce blog posts pertaining to human rights

    • Set and enforce deadlines for blog writing team

  • Communicate with and respond to STAND Directors’ emails and messages in a timely manner (within 48 hours)

Who we’re looking for:

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Outstanding proofreading and editing skills

  • Ability to stay abreast of current events related to STAND

  • Ability to work with team members in different time zones

  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner (no more than 48 hours) with STAND members across Canada through the internet and by telephone.

  • Attend monthly team meetings

  • Reliable and independent - can work under deadlines with minimal supervision; and

  • Able to commit 5-10 hours per week
