Cornerstone Shelter Worker - Union Gospel Mission
Do you have strong interpersonal skills, function well independently, while managing multiple concurrent tasks? Our Shelter Workers will be responsible for the intake of and care for men entering the UGM Shelter by ensuring they have a safe and clean place to find direction, assistance and sleep. The job may include making referrals for housing, clothing, other shelter, recovery and a wide variety of other sundry duties as dictated by the needs of the individuals we serve. The successful candidate will have at least 1-2 years of related work or volunteer experience, and is able to set boundaries with demanding individuals, and deal with people in crisis in an appropriate manner. Basic English skills and basic computer skills are necessary to be successful in this role.
You will frequently deal with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems. There will be other staff nearby to assist as required.
This is an auxiliary (October 2019 – April 30, 2020), part-time (66.5 hours bi-weekly) overnight position, which will work under an Averaging Agreement for a two-week rotation of 9.5 hour shifts. For a copy of the full job description, please visit our website.
