Coordinator of Volunteers - Hope House Community Hospice

Hope House Community Hospice (formerly Hospice King-Aurora-Richmond Hill) provides highly personalized support, at no cost, to those diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, family caregivers and those who are bereaved. Our professional staff and network of dedicated volunteers provide our community with innovative programs and access to information.
 
POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Volunteers oversees the recruitment, training & ongoing support of Hope House volunteers.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruitment & screening of volunteers
  • Training – ensuring volunteers receive training (internal and external) relevant to their position
  • Maintain database with volunteer information and collaborate with program coordinators to ensure monthly statistics are accurately recorded
  • Ensure regular in-house and community professional development opportunities are made available for volunteers
  • Evaluate volunteer satisfaction through annual survey.
  • Collaborate with staff to facilitate volunteer recognition/appreciation initiatives (December (dinner) and spring/summer recognition)
  • Maintain regular contact with volunteers via email (or phone) with updates/events /opportunities for education/care & shares, etc.
  • Maintain and update HHCH Volunteer Manual & work with the Executive Director to develop and implement volunteer policies that meet accreditation standards.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the organization and assists with general office functions and programs as needed.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a recognized volunteer management certificate program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience in volunteer management with community organizations.
  • Knowledge of hospice palliative care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work days/evenings is required
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
 
*NOTE: Due to the pandemic, Hope House has suspended all in-person contact and is now providing support virtually through phone and video conference. We anticipate this will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
