Community Engagement & Event Coordinator - North House

North House is dedicated to providing a spectrum of housing supports for those who are at risk or in crisis within the communities of North Durham. North House works with individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and those living on low-income to find and maintain safe and appropriate housing in North Durham Region. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Engagement & Event Coordinator is an essential position responsible to ensure that events, community giving and donor relations initiatives are successful.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years’ experience successfully implementing a fundraising program combined with a three year college diploma in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CFRE designation (or in process) is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and monitoring activities such as special events, sponsorship and community involvement
  • Ability to professionally deliver presentations, nurture media contacts and other related opportunities for profile and successfully represent an organization publicly at local events
  • Experience developing and implementing successful event plans and activities, juggling multiple priorities, pressures and timelines
  • Experience working with senior colleagues, team members, Board members, community volunteers and existing/prospective participants
  • A current police vulnerable sector check is required
  • Strong writing, organizational, time management and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge and experience in various facets of volunteer development
  • Ability to work under pressure, with multiple projects, within difficult circumstances
  • Steward relationships in a timely and respectful manner
  • Work as a team with other North House staff to maximize fundraising efforts
  • Applied knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent computer literacy with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a reliable vehicle
  • Experience supporting major gift and planned giving campaigns would be considered an asset
Job Duties
Event Management and Coordination
  • Lead the planning and execution of community fundraising events and campaigns, including peer to peer, virtual and in-person (Coldest Night of the Year, Food Truck Festival and Hope for Homes) and third party
  • Accountable for all administrative responsibilities associated with events, including pre-planning, promotion, implementation, and follow-up
  • Ensure that event donors, participants, volunteers, staff and suppliers receive prompt and appropriate follow-up at the completion of each event/initiative
  • Work to enhance and promote event fundraising initiatives, and to gain influence among the general public
  • Work in a supportive manner with volunteers
  • Develop budgets, monitor expenses and meet goals of events
  • Develop appropriate implementation of plans for event recruitment, maximization, and execution, which will include presentations, kick off events, orientation of volunteers, customer service, and event day execution
  • Track program statistics and provide analysis of productivity, including analysis of revenue; develop and submit project plans and ongoing reports
  • Research Corporate Sponsorship opportunities on an ongoing basis
  • Develop and implement overall sponsorship process
  • Manage sponsor expectations: Monitor graphic standards for logo usage, and sponsor recognition program to ensure fees paid are proportionate to benefits delivered
  • Provide sponsors a measurement of their return on investment
  • Greet and cultivate sponsors at events
  • Oversee venue contracts, supplier proposals, invoices, sponsorship contracts and funds received
  • Research and develop third party fundraising opportunities through many sources such as community groups, schools, businesses, corporations, etc.
  • Meet and assist organizations, corporations and individuals with third party fundraising
  • Attend Fundraisers and participate in speaking engagements when necessary
  • Recognize the Company/Individual in a timely manner and appropriately
  • Keep an updated calendar with third party opportunities to ensure deadlines for submissions are met
  • Act as Chair of the Fundraising Committee
Community Engagement
  • Create initial contacts with community members with the goal of increasing presence by selling and promoting North House programs; liaise with current and potential contacts in order to maintain relationships and presence
  • Promote, coordinate, and deliver presentations to community partners with the goal to raise funds and awareness
  • Provide weekly and monthly reporting to the Executive Director on events and community engagement activities
Social Media & Communications
  • Assist with all social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram)
  • Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information
  • Create content that promotes audience interaction, increases audience presence on partner channels, and encourages audience participation
  • Assist with “live” social media management through events, and community relations
  • Develop, coordinate and oversee the “North Notes” e-newsletter
Location
The North House main office is in Uxbridge. Office setting with occasional travel to events or meetings within the Durham Region catchment area.

Compensation and Hours
This is a full-time position with regular hours of work are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday; however, occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Salary $60-65K/year. Please note that submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and therefore early submission is encouraged.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement of all North House staff except for those with an approved medical or human rights exemption.
