The Ontario Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA) is a registered charity committed to the mission of preventing cruelty and promoting animal wellbeing across Ontario. The Ontario SPCA’s Provincial Office currently has the following contract position available:

 

Communications Coordinator - One Year Contract Position

Working remotely, reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, the Communications Coordinator will assist in the execution of the objectives in the Marketing & Communications Operational Plan.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft media releases, blog posts, eblasts and other written pieces for the Society
  • General copy editing and proofreading
  • Research and monitor hot topics, media angles and issues impacting advocacy goals
  • Assist in the delivery of public relations plans and programs that promote the organization
  • Assist in the execution of the Society’s social media program
  • Monitor social media sites
  • Provide social media training and support
  • Update websites and Luminate fundraising pages as requested
  • Create eblasts and newsletters using the Luminate platform
  • Update various Ontario SPCA websites as requested
  • Support the Society’s internal communications plan using SharePoint
  • Other duties as required

 

Skills and Specifications

  • Experience in the areas of communications
  • Excellent written and speaking skills
  • Self-motivated, confident, energetic and creative
  • Ability to operate under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Effective understanding of social media and how to apply them in marketing
  • Experience working on a variety of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  • HTML and WordPress experience
  • Previous experience with Luminate and SharePoint an asset
  • Video production and editing skills an asset
  • Experience writing media releases and pitching to media
  • Highly organized, able to multi-task  and prioritize
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Good team player
  • Prior experience working for a charity an asset
