Communications Coordinator (Full-time, Permanent) - *New Position

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Reports to: Director of Communications

Hiring Range: $50,000 - $52,000, including a benefits plan, pension plan, 15 paid vacation days in your first year, increasing to 20 paid vacation days in your second year of employment and professional development opportunities 

Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC) is a national non-profit organization that builds health, belonging and social justice in low-income communities across Canada through the power of food. We believe food can bring people together to build skills and improve physical and mental health, and create the opportunity for greater equity and social change. We provide ideas, resources and a proven approach to partner organizations so they can establish responsive, financially stable Community Food Centres that support people to grow, cook, share, and advocate for good food for all. CFCC also works with the broader food movement to build greater capacity and to empower communities to work toward a healthy and fair food system. Our vision is a Canada that treats food as a basic human right.

CFCC is growing to support its ambition to develop community food centres in 20 communities across Canada, innovate new approaches to addressing food insecurity and advocate for positive change for low-income communities.

CFCC is hiring a Communications Coordinator to support our team during an exciting period of growth. This includes amplifying our partners from across the country, building brand & reach across digital channels, and boldly promoting our policy + advocacy work and political positions.

The ideal candidate is a creative, critical thinker who’s eager to work in a fast-paced environment. An activist who wants to see social change and understands how communications helps to propel the mission.

Digital-first, you breathe social media and online engagement is second nature. You are also an exceptional writer and content creator who can create vibrant, compelling content tailored to an audience and driven by data.

Social media content creation & monitoring: 50% 

  • Social media planning, writing, curating, scheduling

  • Support in content creation for social media (producing graphics, GIFs, video)

  • Coordinate the editorial calendar and liaise across departments for content development

  • Grow our follower base and inspire action through conversion (advocacy/donation)

  • Ongoing community engagement and management, for organic and paid social and campaigns

  • Conduct daily social listening, news scans + media monitoring 

Platform & analytics support: 25% 

  • Support in maintenance of all CFCC corporate and event websites in both official languages

  • Support with email creation and deployment, as well as list maintenance

  • Tracking and analysis of social media, email marketing and media metrics against established KPIs

  • Research on best practices in communications and marketing, including trends and breaking news on technologies

Communications & admin support: 25% 

  • Support the Development and Communications team with content development, from branding to media relations to events.

  • Assist in auditing, organizing and refreshing annual partner support and branding materials.

  • Maintain media lists and leads in Salesforce

  • Coordinate and execute Development and Communications administrative tasks, on an as-needed basis. Including:

    • Track Communications expense budget and submit invoices

    • Pulling reports, as needed

    • Drive & document maintenance

    • Support the curation and sharing of communications updates

    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, PR or related discipline in addition to 3-5 years of experience in communications or marketing roles. 

  • Ability to apply solid equity, anti-Black racism and inclusion principles to marketing and communications and engage in self-reflective practice to support organizational change.

  • Experience with mission-driven organizations is a strong asset. 

  • Exceptional writing and content creation skills.

  • Superior editing abilities, with an eagle eye for details, spelling and grammar.

  • Advanced experience in social media content creation and campaigns. Experience in crafting social media advocacy campaigns is considered an asset.

  • An understanding and knack for digital platforms: you should have strong experience in social media platforms scheduling and analytics and CMS. And you should be someone who loves to learn new platforms, try the newest trends and troubleshoot issues.

  • Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet tight deadlines.

  • Solution-driven with an ability to self-motivate and work as part of an ambitious, collaborative team.

  • Experience in CRM software, preferably with Engaging Networks and Salesforce.

  • Experience with design programs (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and proven commitment to brand consistency.

  • Abilities in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

  • Bilingualism is an asset.
