Communications and Marketing Manager - Belong Ottawa

Reporting to the Executive Director and working with the Fundraising and Strategic Communications sub-committees of the Management Board, the Communications and Marketing Manager will:


  • Collaborate with other organizations to raise community awareness and build partnerships.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan that engages both external and internal stakeholders in the work of the organization.
  • Lead the content and layout of our website and social media channels and continuously update these communications tools.
  • Lead and oversee brand guidelines through digital presence and traditional media outlets for internal and external use to amplify our mission/vision statement and engage with all who enter our centres.
  • Implement the rebranding launch plan and ensure the successful uptake of the new brand in all communications channel.
  • Monitor and maintain our rebranding communications plan to ensure the successful launch of our new name and logo.
    • Continually innovate and launch new communication tools to broaden our stakeholder and donor audience and engage stakeholders/donors in our work
    • Monitor and evaluate the communications plan and tactics to identify areas of success and areas requiring additional communications support.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to handle PR execution, liaising with the media and drafting press releases as required.


    • Lead and implement the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve funding objectives. Manage direct mail campaigns. Monitor and evaluate the success of the fundraising plan.
    • Identify and implement strategies to expand the current individual, corporate, and foundation donor base.
    • Organize donor campaigns and events (including 3rd Party) to raise funds and build donor loyalty.
    • Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies to recognize donor support, communicate the impacts of giving to our donor base and to promote sustained donor relationships.
    • Research, write, and submit applications to secure corporate, foundation, and government grants.
    • Work with Administrative support to maintain accurate donor, prospect and grant records.
    • Foster good relationships with staff, donors, and members of the community.


    • A university or college degree in fundraising, communications, marketing or other relevant field is preferred.


    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with proficiency in both French and English preferred
    • Flexible approach with the ability to work across our three sites.


    • Proficient at using digital platforms to engage audiences in our work which results in them volunteering, donating, and supporting our work. Your expertise will be key to helping us achieve our mission and exceed our fundraising goals.
    • Relevant knowledge of various aspects of non-profit fundraising (direct-mail, monthly giving, major gifts, proposal writing, and grants)
    • Time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Experience with social network platforms eg LinkedIn, Facebook etc.
    • Knowledge of emerging communications trends, design platforms such as Canva and InDesign and other relevant technologies.
    • Experience with event organization and ability to work effectively with volunteers.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, and also to work independently.
