Communications and Digital Media Specialist - Canadian Association of Community Health Centres

Work Hours / Status: 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week) / 1-year contract (possibility for renewal)
Reports to: Executive Director
Location: Ontario; primarily remote work with occasional in-person meetings
Compensation: $60,000 - $68,000 annual salary (prorated to 0.8 FTE), plus benefits

Summary and vision for the position: The Communications and Digital Media Specialist develops and implements communication strategies to reach the association’s target audiences, with special emphasis on use of digital media such as videos, podcasts, infographics, social media, other digital media tools, and the association’s interactive website. This position is situated within a small team (two other employees), where the successful candidate is the only team member dedicated to communications.

The position is ideally suited to a professional with a passion for bringing communications potential to life, taking big ideas and translating them into clear and compelling communications initiatives. This involves carrying these initiatives forward from concept to design and implementation. Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide communications input on CACHC’s policy, advocacy and government relations initiatives;
  • Conceive, develop, and implement communications initiatives to advance the association’s strategic priorities;
  • Prepare compelling visual and written communication content that attracts attention and resonates strongly with diverse target audiences;
  • Use a range of communication products such as blogs, videos, podcasts, infographics, newsletters, web features, and online/print reports to reach target audiences;
  • Lead the production of CACHC’s annual report and other promotional materials;
  • Manage and enhance CACHC’s website;
  • Monitor communications and communication technology trends to ensure CACHC’s communication products are current, cost-effective, and appropriate;
  • Engage the association’s members to gather and communicate stories that demonstrate the value and impact of Community Health Centres locally and nationally;
  • Work with members’ communication and other staff to nurture a community of practice and build capacity related to Community Health Centre based communications.

Skills and Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum 3 years of organizational experience developing and implementing communications initiatives/projects, via print and digital media;
  • Technical Competencies:
  • Knowledge of visual design principles for diverse print and digital media
  • Experience in development and design of infographics
  • Proficiency in graphic design with excellent use of typography, composition, and image selection
  • Experience in website management, including proficiency in Wordpress
  • Experience with diverse social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and others
  • Experience developing video content, and familiarity with video platforms and video editing tools/software
  • Ability to make sound determinations about the most appropriate communications tools, key messages, and delivery mechanisms to reach and influence identified target audiences;
  • Effective skills in priority-setting within an environment where there are competing demands;
  • Demonstrated ability to distill and communicate complex concepts and themes, and to develop communications initiatives in context of a multiple stakeholder environment;
  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated, with strong sense of accountability for personal time management and meeting deadlines and deliverables;
  • Very strong attention to detail (content and aesthetics), with demonstrated ability to ensure accuracy and accessibility;
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues and clients;
  • Flexibility in adapting to a changing environment and based on availability of resources.

Additional Competencies (Desirable)

  • Bilingualism (English/French) in both oral and written communications;
  • Undergraduate degree in field relevant to communications and marketing; and/or post-secondary diploma in Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Digital Media or other relevant field
  • Experience working with a membership association;
  • Experience working with an organization in healthcare or social services sectors;
