Boarding Advisors

Employment Terms: Contract

Start Date: ASAP

Branksome Hall, a leading independent International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for girls challenges and inspires students to love learning and shape a better world. Through the unique combination of wellbeing, outstanding academics and international mindedness, Branksome Hall students and employees become impactful leaders. With our values of Sense of Community, Inclusiveness, Creativity and Making a Difference as a foundation, Branksome Hall offers a strong liberal arts curriculum that develops critical thinking and inquiry skills.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking Boarding Advisors who love working with teenagers and possess boundless energy to join our outstanding Boarding community. Boarding life encompasses everything outside of the classroom for the students who reside on campus, including friendships, homework, homesickness, and bedtimes. Reporting to the Director of Boarding, Boarding Advisors are responsible for the care and supervision of our culturally diverse and academically motivated Grade 7-12 students after school, during exam periods, overnights, and on alternating weekends.

Our Boarding Advisors stay overnight in the Boarding House for their on-duty nights and have a fully furnished apartment on campus, outside of the Boarding House when off-duty. This arrangement provides personal space and a quiet place to recharge, an important self-care strategy when you are caring for others.

Each Boarding Advisor will also be involved in the school's rich co-curricular program through coaching a team or supervising a school club. On weekends, Boarding Advisors organize and lead creative and entertaining programming both on and off campus.

The successful candidates will ensure each boarding student feels safe and supported in their home-away-from home; that students thrive in the academic, co-curricular and boarding program as well as participate in and actively shape the vibrant Boarding program. Establishing relationships with and maintaining on-going communication with parents and guardians via, email, phone and in-person will come with ease to the successful candidate.

In addition, the Boarding Advisor will provide some support around the departmental administrative tasks including maintaining duty logs, supply ordering, and online record keeping.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

With the ability to build genuine, caring relationships with the students and Boarding team, the ideal candidate is a good listener who is encouraging, fun, organized, and thoughtful, with a growth mind-set.

The successful candidate will have related experience caring for or living with adolescents and providing support for their social and emotional well-being and academic and co-curricular development. Experience working with LGBTQ+ youth would be an asset. Possession of OCT, BSW or equivalent qualifications would be ideal along with Red Cross/LSS, NLS, First Aid and CPR certifications. The ability to act as a role model and to demonstrate a positive lifestyle around mindfulness and healthy choices as well as sensitivity to cultural diversity will come with ease to you. Boarding Advisors will be experienced with risk management practices and have the ability to maintain a calm, caring demeanour. Knowledge and familiarity of the GTA would be considered an asset. Boarding Advisors are required to live on campus full-time during the academic year (accommodations are suitable for one person only and no pets).
