The Foundation

The Catherine Donnelly Foundation is a progressive, dynamic national granting foundation, created in 2003 by the Sisters of Service, a Catholic religious community, to promote positive social change in Canada.  The CDF supports and collaborates with social change groups in Canada by providing grants and partnering with charities and grassroots organizations across Canada to address issues and work toward justice in our priority areas of Housing, Adult Education and the Environment. We invest our capital in programs that respect and/or promote our goals.  The Foundation is also committed to impact investment.

The Foundation supports bold and innovative initiatives that advocate and pioneer new strategies to advance the interests of those most marginalized in our society and/or that further ecological justice. For more information on the Catherine Donnelly Foundation visit: www.catherinedonnellyfoundation.org

The CDF board, staff and grantees are people of any religious faith, or no specific faith.

Please see www.catherinedonnellyfoundation.org for more information about who we are, our history, and the programs and projects we fund.

Board of Directors

By November 2020, the CDF will need three (3) new board members for our 14 member national board, including one candidate from western Canada.

The Board is seeking specific competencies for the three board vacancies:

  • Finance/Audit expertise
  • SRI/Impact Investing/General Investment expertise
  • Adult Education for social justice experience/knowledge

We encourage diverse candidates (Black, Indigenous and Persons of Colour), newcomers and those under 40 in particular to apply.

Board Commitment:

The CDF Foundation Board meets twice a year in Toronto, once in the spring and once in the fall, for two full days (or in Covid times virtually).  Board Members also serve on at least one, usually two board committees, either in person or by conference call or Zoom. Board members dedicate approximately 7-10 days/year to the Foundation’s work.
