Reporting to the Manager – Leadership Philanthropy, the Associate Director works to increase the revenue secured on behalf of the partner organizations through strategic cultivation and solicitation of outright gifts and pledged gifts of $10,000 or more. 

Within this role the Associate Director is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the UHKF strategic plan including:

  • offering an inspiring, donor-centered giving experience,
  • mobilizing highly sophisticated fundraising techniques in way that reflects the distinct philanthropic culture of our region
  • ensuring consistent high quality outcomes through exceptional process management
  • bringing to life new models of leadership.



  • Identifies prospective donors from existing database and through prospect research support.
  • Independently sets strategy for cultivation of major gift prospects.
  • Solicits outright and pledged gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Advises colleagues on strategies for complex gifts combining several giving vehicles or combining outright and deferred gifts.
  • Provides support and direction to senior volunteers in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts.
  • Designs and implements effective program for orientation and engagement of internal stakeholders including physicians, board members, and senior staff within a particular hospital.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of a multi-year capital campaign for Kingston’s hospitals.
  • Adheres to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other policies which govern this position
  • Understands, is familiar with, and complies with all pertinent UHKF policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct, confidentiality and
  • donor privacy, decision authority, conflict of interest, compliance with Canada Revenue Agency regulations and the Donor Bill of Rights.



  • Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field; an equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered
  • Minimum 3 years progressive development experience with a successful track record in securing gifts valued at $10,000 or more or related work experience may be considered.
  • Established, outstanding and respected reputation within communities of practice
  • Progressive professional development including, but not limited to; ongoing education and involvement with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP);
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence;
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate volunteers;
  • Proven effectiveness managing and coaching volunteers;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in relationship-building and working with peers;
  • Proven sound judgment, integrity and strategic vision; 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; 
  • Proven ability to influence others positively, through effective interpersonal skills;
  • Current knowledge of Canadian taxation issues related to charitable giving.
  • Satisfactory CPIC with vulnerable sector search
