Addictions Case Worker /Counsellor - Charlford House Society for Women

At this exciting time in Charlford House Women's Treatment Centre's history, we are inviting applicants who wish to take this journey with us. After renting since 1970, we are taking the important step of purchasing a property, thus securing a “Forever Home” to ensure we can provide services to women for generations to come.

Who you are:

We require a mature, responsible and reliable individual to support the existing counselling team in the Program office. Reporting to the Program Director, the Addictions Counsellor will use group and individual counselling skills and theories to inform and guide women in the early stages of recovery from drug and /or alcohol addiction. This role is critical to providing high quality care, while ensuring a professional and compassionate face to our internal and external clients.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates daily groups for women in residence
  • Develops group topics, programs and workshops specific to women in recovery
  • Provides one-to-one counselling
  • Maintains individual women’s files
  • Performs screenings, intakes and discharges
  • Liaises with residents’ professional support (social worker, financial aid worker, etc.) when required
  • Connects clients to other agencies, services and resources
  • Maintains and submits Fraser Health stats reports
  • Liaises with insurance companies & Interventionists etc to fill non-contracted beds
  • Assists with overseeing clients’ Step work
  • Case management & note-taking
  • Accompanies clients to pertinent appointments (Child & Family Services, court, etc.)
  • Identifies and spearheads a specific Program (eg food addiction, body image, positive parenting)
  • Assists with overseeing & liaising with 2nd Stage Residence
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Education: Counsellor certification and working towards ICADC
  • Some post-secondary education in a related field (trauma informed practice, co-occurring disorders) would be an asset
  • Experience: Minimum of two years counsellor support experience in a residential setting
  • Working knowledge of 12 Step program
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook & Power Point)
  • Excellent organization skills; strong priority-setting abilities and detail-oriented
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a keen awareness of circumstances requiring sensitivity, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Lived experience of addiction is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle is an asset
