Position: News Writer - CTV News Channel

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Overtime as required. Shift will include weekends.

CTV News Channel is looking for an experienced News Writer to work alongside our producers and anchors.

The successful candidate has excellent news judgement and the highest journalistic standards.

Job duties & Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced News Writer who thrives in a live breaking news environment. The ideal candidate must have a keen interest in Canadian news, politics and global affairs. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to writing clear, concise and accurate scripts for CTV News Channel. The newsroom is fast-paced and we are looking for someone who works well under pressure, is able to meet deadlines and has strong written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will also be a motivated, self-starter who is keen to train on other newsroom positions such as line-up editor.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience writing for local/national newscasts
  • A Journalism degree/diploma is required
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Ability to prioritize several simultaneous duties and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to write to pictures and sound
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
  • Thorough understanding of libel, slander and copyright law
  • Well versed in social media
  • A self-motivated individual who is also a team player
  • Control Room experience an asset
  • iNews experience is an asset

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
