Position: Weekend Assignment Editor- CP24 

Job Status: Regular- full time

Location: 299 Queen St W, Toronto

Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week - involves shift work including weekends and evenings

 

Responsibilities:   

  • Assigning staff and resources for the production of Toronto and GTA focused stories for CP24
  • Generating story and event ideas
  • Taking part in the daily and long term planning of news coverage.
  • Act as a liaison with local stations, other networks and agencies
  • Other duties include:  assisting in breaking news coverage, booking guests for CP24 chats/noon show/special events, booking feeds, greeting guests, developing contacts
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:        

  • Degree or diploma in broadcast journalism or its equivalent
  • 5 years experience in a journalism role
  • In-depth knowledge of local/domestic news and current affairs
  • Experience in dealing breaking news coverage
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines and prioritize
  • Computer skills – knowledge of iNews an asset
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience directing staff
  • Ability to work in a team, motivate staff and personally set the highest professional journalism standards.
  • A broad general knowledge of television technology particularly in the digital world
  • Strong social media skills

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
