Job Duties / Accountabilities:

 

CTV News is looking for an experienced digital producer to join our national editorial team. If you thrive on breaking news, want to be on the leading edge of stories Canadians are talking about and work with a team of young, energetic writers, we want you to apply.

 

CTVNews.ca is a top news publisher, reaching one of the biggest audiences in Canada. You will be working alongside some of Canada's top award-winning journalists who cover the world’s biggest stories.

 

Responsibilities:      

  • Oversee the editorial content of CTVNews.ca, including stories, social media and video
  • Position is for an evening shift, working 3:30 - 11:30 P.M. ET, with remote work possible across Canada
  • Assign stories to writers, provide guidance on elements and edit final copy
  • Manage the placement and treatment of stories and other elements on the CTVNews.ca homepage and other site sections
  • Post breaking news stories and updates to digital platforms with accuracy and speed
  • Manage multiple social media streams, using our distribution tools
  • Interpret a wide range of sources, including social posts, government statements, press releases and court rulings
  • Work closely with local newsrooms and CTV News producers to extend general broadcast content on the website, and extend web-based content into the TV environment. 


Qualifications:    

  • Degree in Journalism 
  • 5 years experience in a digital news environment
  • Experience supervising writers in a newsroom
  • Experience copy editing and proofreading written content
  • Ability to identify daily storylines that will drive traffic and engagement on CTV News digital platforms
  • Clean, clear writing and editing skills, plus advanced knowledge of CP Style
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems and news gathering systems
  • Be able to quickly and accurately communicate with broadcast and digital teams about developments in stories
  • Understanding of SEO and a willingness to relearn these techniques as best-practices change
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and creative
