Role: Digital Content Producer

Status: Part-time, weekends

 

Responsibilities:

CTV News Northern Ontario is seeking a digital writer/producer who can generate original stories and publish content for our digital platforms

  • Proof read and fact check copy using Canadian Press Style ensuring accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards of all online material (headlines, captions, photos, video, etc.)
  • Posting and moderating multiple social media feeds
  • Photo and video editing
  • Maintain communication with editorial team, reporters and anchors on content and assignments
  • Gather news elements, chase breaking news, and keep published content updated with new developments
  • Curate high-interest digital content from other CTV News stations and pitch local content for cross-publishing consideration
  • Maximize content's discoverability using keywords and SEO practices
  • Must be available weekends and evenings as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the English language with excellent writing skills, communication and attention to detail
  • Have strong time management, prioritization and multi-tasking abilities and be able to meet constant tight deadlines
  • Be able to work both individually and with a team
  • Ability to make independent editorial decisions
  • Journalism Diploma or Degree preferred
  • Prior web publishing experience and familiarity with SEO, an asset
  • Have a great, positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Should be familiar with fact checking and news gathering practices, as well as Canadian libel law
  • Knowledge of the northern Ontario region
  • Prior newsroom and journalism experience an asset

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
