Dana Downing - Physiotherapist

Years at Alberta Health Services: 4
Number of positions held: 3

"Enjoy what you are doing. If you do, others will too and you will see your desired results in life, work and your relationships with others."

My Background

Since high school, I knew that I wanted to become a physiotherapist. I completed my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Brock University in Ontario, and worked as a kinesiologist in a physiotherapy clinic. I returned to school to complete a master’s degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Alberta.

Why Alberta Health Services?

I wanted to work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton because I had completed a clinical placement there and I enjoyed the work environment. I knew it would be a great place to develop into the type of physiotherapist I want to be and where I would receive mentorship from others as I began my professional career.

Ajae Benjamin - Diagnostic Sonographer

Years at Alberta Health Services: 2.5
Number of positions held: 2

"I enjoy working with people – this includes everybody from the physicians to the patients. I love the challenge that comes with this job. I am always learning something new."

My Background

I was at university pursing a business degree, but I was unhappy and I took one year off. I wanted a career where I could help people so I did some research. I realized I wanted to go into the diagnostic medical sonographer program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). I upgraded through the Métis Health and Science Transition program and then took the 28-month diagnostic medical sonographer course.

Why Alberta Health Services?

I wanted to work close to home and at a big tertiary care centre. You get to be a part of the big picture when you work at a facility that caters to the needs of western Canada. Leading-edge technology allows us to image something that we weren't able to twenty years ago. Imagine the lives that could save. Who wouldn't want to be a part of this?

Victoria Cluett - Registered Nurse

Years at Alberta Health Services: 1.5
Number of positions held: 2

"I absolutely love nursing! Although it may be stressful and challenging at times, working with patients and families makes it all worthwhile."

My Background

Nursing has been a lifelong career goal. Ever since I was a little girl, I always said, "I want to be a nurse when I grow up". A few years ago, I attended nursing school in Fort McMurray at Keyano College, through the University of Alberta. I just graduated as a registered nurse in May, 2011.

Why Alberta Health Services?

Alberta Health Services has provided me with many opportunities since I began nursing, including allowing me to work full-time as an undergraduate nursing employee throughout nursing school. Also, when I graduated nursing school, there were an abundance of registered nurse positions available, making it easy to obtain a job at Alberta Health Services.
