TalentEgg founder Lauren Friese appeared on CTV Canada AM this morning to discuss summer job hunting strategies and how students can stand out from the crowd!
As Lauren mentions, the first thing you should do to start you summer job hunt is find out what resources are available. She recommends that students make use of their campus career centres, online job hunting tools (like TalentEgg.ca), and their own personal network of friends and family.
Students should also tap into the ‘unaware job market.’ Simply put, many employers don’t know that they need you yet. If you can demonstrate to employers that you’re going to bring a positive return on investment to their organization, many will be willing to offer you a summer job or internship.
Lauren also describes how students should leverage social media like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to find a summer job. Don’t be afraid to use your Facebook status to let your 500+ friends know that you’re looking for a job in a certain field. This is a great way to get a referral and find out about jobs that are not posted online.
