Who To Follow On Twitter: Accounting Edition

by

Competition is stiff for accounting students, so you need more than one way to stand out to employers.

The good news is that, over the last year, many accounting employers and organizations have started to become more active on Twitter, providing additional opportunities for students to learn about accounting, stay up to date with the latest news and events, and interact directly with campus recruiters online.

At some firms, both national and regional campus recruiters have Twitter accounts in addition to the company’s campus recruitment and general accounts, so it’s important to be strategic by following and interacting with the people who represent your region and will be making decisions about who to hire later this year.

Just like you can stand out and make a good impression in person at recruitment events, you can also get accounting employers to notice you by mentioning them on Twitter and tweeting about topics that might make them see you as a top student, such as your involvement on-campus or in the community. Each time you meet and interact with a campus recruiter or other employer representative, make sure you follow them on Twitter (if you’re not already) and let them know that it was egg-cellent to meet them. Think of it almost like a networking thank-you note online.

Here are our picks for accounting-related Twitter accounts that you should follow:

CPA Ontario

CPA Ontario has an official Twitter profile to connect with the Ontario branch of Canada’s trusted business leaders! They share career resources and news, including top accounting insights, as well as keeping their followers in touch with the latest upcoming industry events. Following @CPA_Ontario is your connection to the accounting industry.

PwC

According to PwC’s National Campus Talent Acquisition Manager James Davidson in our latest video featuring PwC, there are even more ways for students to connect with PwC this fall. One of those ways is definitely on Twitter! You can follow James himself (@voiceofjamesd), PwC’s Brilliant Futures campus recruitment account (@PwC_ca_campus) and recent grad National Recruitment Blogger/Campaign Star/Experienced Associate Fahad Meer (@_fahadmeer) just to name a few. We also recommend checking out the #PwCBF hashtag (“BF” stands for “Brilliant Futures”) to find even more PwC people on Twitter.

KPMG

Stay up to date with all of KPMG’s campus recruitment activities by following @KPMGCampusCDN – they post on-campus events, application tips and deadlines, behind the scenes photos, and sometimes they even let their interns take over the account so you can get an inside look at what it’s like to work for KPMG. Many of KPMG’s campus recruiters are also on Twitter – we recommend starting with Talent Attraction Managers Stephen Novalski (@SNovalski) and Laird MacDonald (@LairdCMacDonald), and Talent Attraction Specialists Pankita Patel (@PankitaP) and Julia Beniusis (@JuliaBeniusis), but there are plenty of others too!
