From Summer Student To Manager: Career Growth At Bayer CropScience

by

Bayer CropScience’s Summer Associate program offers four- to six-month employment opportunities across Canada beginning May of each year. Whether you are looking to start your agricultural career in sales and marketing, production or research, Bayer CropScience has the opportunity for you. The company has locations in Calgary, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Kamloops, Ottawa and Guelph, with employment opportunities in each centre and in the surrounding territories.

Many Bayer CropScience employees started as Summer Associates and have had the opportunity to quickly work their way up within the company, learning valuable skills along the way.

Starting as a summer student with Bayer CropScience

Shari Chelack, a recent Business Economics graduate from the University of Saskatchewan who now works as a Customer Strategy Specialist with Bayer CropScience, started with the company in 2010 as a summer student in their call centre and now, two years later, she is managing summer students!

University of Saskatchewan Microbiology and Immunology graduate Michelle Chabot also worked as a summer student for a few years before she was hired as a Breeding Agronomist to help the company create the next InVigor hybrid canola breed at the Bayer CropScience Breeding Centre of Innovation.

Similarly, University of Saskatchewan Agribusiness graduates Victoria Anderson and Katie MacMillan started as Summer Associates in Sales and now work as a Territory Sales Representative and Territory Sales Manager, respectively.

Why they stayed with Bayer CropScience

Victoria has worked at Bayer CropScience for the last three years and says she felt so comfortable and welcome that she decided to stay. For Shari, it is the opportunity for mentorship at Bayer CropScience that has kept her at the company. Her managers have worked closely with her to develop her into the position she works in now. She says Bayer CropScience helps you find your career aspirations and fit you into the position you want to have.

Michelle, meanwhile, has been really impressed with the high quality learning opportunities she’s been able to participate in since starting with Bayer CropScience a few years ago. Now, she’s come full circle and shares the knowledge she’s gained with Bayer CropScience’s newest Summer Associates each year.

Bright futures at Bayer CropScience

Shari, Michelle, Victoria and Katie are well on their way to successful careers within Bayer CropScience!

Michelle says she has already moved up quite a bit, originally starting as an Agronomist and moving into a program that breeds plants. Katie pictures herself getting into brand and product development or marketing one day, and Victoria says she’s looking forward to a long career with the company, probably staying in sales. Shari, meanwhile, believes she’s found her calling in Customer Strategy.
