Following Kate Morawetz’s article earlier this summer about Twitter etiquette (whether your boss is following you or not), I’ve been keeping an eye out for funny, interesting and downright terrible examples of unprofessional behaviour on social networks which have had dire consequences for users.
This one, a Facebook status, has been making the rounds on dozens of blogs lately, so I couldn’t resist posting it. We’ve all worked crappy jobs with bosses we hate before, but this is a good example of why it’s better to keep some things private in an increasingly public online world.
To avoid losing your job or damaging your career prospects like this girl, check out some of the resources we’ve put together on keeping your online identity in check:
- Why your online reputation could be keeping you unemployed and what you can do about it
- In a New York City Starbucks, Gen Y is worried about Facebook
- More on Facebook and your professional life
- and a digital strategist asks, What is your personal brand?

First off lol!!
It’s amazing what goes on Facebook. As a safety measure I have Facebook linked to my black berry so if someone says something I don’t want them to it can be gone in a matter of seconds but to post things that are offensive or plain right dumb is your own fault.
Just be smart people!
Great article Cassandra!
Do we think she is British by any chance? I love it!!! The boss is a pervvy wanker…….but he’s gay!!! Classic, absolute classic. Ah, you’ve made my day, great post.
I would guess yes. These things seem British to me:
- pervvy (sic) wanker
- WANKER!
- “I’ll pop your P45 in the post” is the most British sentence in the world
Great post!!! Thanks for sharing.
Wow.
I guess the alternate title to this article could have been “how to lose your job in two hours” eh?
Hahaha — this post is awesome!!
