It isn‘t all bad news for job-hunting students
Macleans OnCampus – Like we keep saying, the recession is only short-term and a labour shortage is looming. Employers want young, enthusiastic workers to replace the exiting baby boomers, who are starting to retire en masse. No matter what industry you want to work in, employers are panicking as they watch the boomers disappear one by one. Some of the jobs mentioned in this article are not the most meaningful, like manual labour and pouring coffee at 7-11, but they’ll pay the bills in the meantime.

The world needs more female bosses: Ernst & Young
Financial Post – Finally, we women get our dues! An Ernst & Young report suggests the best way out of the current economic situation is to hire more women into leadership positions. The idea is, since mostly men have had the reigns so far and there are almost a million more men than women in the Canadian workforce, women – who tend to think differently about the same problems – might be able to use our female intuition to solve all the world’s problems. Isn’t that what we’ve been saying all along?

Rich, educated, tech-savvy binge drinkers
Macleans OnCampus – We have the most education, we’re the richest and live the healthiest lifestyles, but apparently we binge drink more frequently than the other generations too. The study found “20-somethings represent the highest proportion of alcohol-dependent individuals in the U.S.” Although, the study says, university students and graduates (and those with higher incomes in general) consume less alcohol than their less-educated counterparts, I think anyone with even one friend in university regularly consumed copious amounts of alcohol on a regular basis.
