Early Career

Here at TJX Canada, we strive our hardest to make sure that, every day, our customers are able to find the latest and greatest designer brand names for less than they'd pay elsewhere. When they walk in the doors of our stores, whether it's a Winners, HomeSense, or Marshalls, savvy shoppers know they'll experience the "Thrill of the Find," which, if you're curious, feels like a slight breeze blowing over the surface of your skin-not a bad feeling, if we do say so ourselves.

But you're not here to feel the breeze. You're here to see if working with TJX Canada is right for you. To help with your decision, we'd like to introduce you to someone who once faced the same choice you have to make.

Omari is one of our District Loss Prevention Managers, which means it's his job to ensure that our LP controls are being executed at the store level. He's also responsible for detecting and resolving any issues that arise from dishonest activity.

But what's even more surprising is that the man knows how to write a poem. He brought one into work once where he rhymed "perpendicular" with "pencil eraser", and then followed it with "transitional polyester." We have no idea what the poem was about, but it was mighty fun to listen to.

This is Omari. He is one of us.

But know this. If you do decide to apply for this position, and we agree that this is the right job for you, you'll be supported by a plethora of internal programs whose only focus is the continued progress of your career. At TJX Canada, we do everything we can to help you achieve your full potential. But we can't do it all ourselves. You'll need to bring the ambition, the motivation, and the drive.

So what do you think? Like Omari, are you one of us?

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our District Loss Prevention Managers, we'd ask you to do the following:

  • Ensure execution of shrink programs at the store level
  • Maintain and reduce shrink in the district
  • Train and develop Store Management and Associates on LP issues
  • Develop and maintain internal partnerships with Associates at all levels of the organization and external partnerships with various LP representatives in the community (i.e. other retail companies, police, etc.)
  • Manage budgets
  • Conduct and support internal investigations.
  • Manage expenses (cell, travel, mileage, etc.)

Sounds rather challenging and exciting, right? Let's hope so, because if it sounds easy or boring, there's a good chance this job isn't for you. But if it does sound right for you, here's why we know you'll be able to handle those challenges:

  • You've done enough mental heavy lifting to earn your college diploma or university degree
  • You have three years of experience in Loss Prevention, which you can use to build a stable and bright future here at WMI
  • You have advanced knowledge of LP, including the ability to investigate cases of crime or neglect, managing cases, and following legal guidelines and requirements
  • Your strong communication skills include discussing issues with others for the purposes of clarification or explanation; writing sweep audits, memos, documents, letters, reports, etc.; working closely with Stores, DC, Home Office, Regional Offices, and external clients; and conducting oral presentations for shrink meetings and internal conferences
  • Your have strong organizational skills; interviewing skills; coaching and counseling skills; interpersonal skills (including conflict management); and information-gathering skills (including establishing information for purpose of proof, validation or evidence; inquiring into claims of dishonesty; asking questions to establish information as required; listening to arguments or evidence; noting unusual occurrences, documenting alert signals; and analyzing mechanized reports for unusual occurrences)
  • You can ensure the accuracy of calculations, analyze internal and external surveys, maintain records (working papers, cases, reports, policies & procedures, etc.), and ensure the efficient coordination of investigations
  • You possess working knowledge of CCTV applications
  • Your staff-management skills include participating in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of staff; teaching and mentoring team members; providing advice and guidance to staff members in the resolution of problems; reviewing performance and providing feedback to team members on the acceptability of their work; and identifying and communicating opportunities for LP improvements
  • Your computer skills include word processing; knowledge of spreadsheet creation; knowledge of LP transaction management (i.e. ICL); POS knowledge; etc.

We know some of that might sound a little daunting, but if we're going to meet and exceed our promises to our customers, we have to be committed to hiring the best person for the job.
