Allocation Analyst - May

Mississauga, Ontario
Work While Studying, Entry Level

Here at TJX Canada, we strive our hardest to make sure that, every day, our customers are able to find the latest and greatest designer brand names for less than they'd pay elsewhere. When they walk through the doors of our stores, whether it's a Winners, HomeSense, or Marshalls, savvy shoppers know they'll experience the "Thrill of the Find," which, if you're curious, feels like a slight breeze blowing over the surface of your skin-not a bad feeling, if we do say so ourselves.

But you're not here to feel the breeze. You're here to see if working with TJX Canada is right for you. To help with your decision, we'd like to introduce you to someone who once faced the same choice you have to make.

Meet Zach.

Zach is one of our Allocation Analysts who joined our company as a new graduate. He has always had a passion for fashion and a natural curiosity for understanding why products sell. Now he is responsible for analyzing store sales, inventory levels and product performance in order to create the best possible mix in every store every day, which makes him a true entrepreneur in his business.

Zach came to us with an interest in learning what makes us a successful off price retailer. Since completing our 12-week training program he has gained a strong foundation of what it takes to be a successful analyst. He's always taking the initiative to look beyond the obvious solution and providing creative recommendations. He also enjoys doing extensive research for products and trends. Zach has learned that collaboration is key, he works closely with his immediate cross functional teams including planning, buying and distribution center business partners.

Working as a fashion Buyer for furniture is a dream job for Zach, however this role has opened his eyes to many other opportunities in the organization. Of course, many of our Buyers travel internationally on a regular basis to Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States. Good thing dreams are borderless.

But still, this is Zach. He is one of us.

If you do decide to apply for this position, and we agree that this is the right job for you, you'll be supported by a plethora of internal programs whose only focus is the continued progress of your career. At TJX Canada, we do everything we can to help you achieve your full potential. But we can't do it all ourselves. You'll need to bring the ambition, the motivation, and the drive.

So what do you think? Like Zach, are you one of us?

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Allocation Analysts, we'd ask you to do the following:

  • Partner with planning managers, associate planners, buyers, and peers, to create weekly shipping strategies that ensure the right product is allocated to the right stores at the right time
  • Ensure merchandise sales and inventory targets are met by monitoring store performance
  • Complete store visits and competition store visits with various business partners to critique and evaluate the product mix for brand, fashion, quality, and price
  • Communicate your department's merchandising vision to all stores on a weekly basis
  • Update business tools throughout the year as needed
  • Create an optional product mix for all new store locations
  • Visit the Distribution Centres as required in order to resolve problems related to shipments
  • Plan and execute in-store promotional events, plus recap results and make recommendations for future events
  • Actively participate in special projects and initiatives within the department, including shipping new/specialty products, conducting product tests, and distorting the product assortment; plus analyze the results and make recommendations to planning and buying business partners based on findings
  • Openly and persuasively communicate observations, ideas and recommendations to business partners at all levels within the organization

Sounds rather challenging and exciting, right? Let's hope so, because if it sounds easy or boring, there's a good chance this job isn't for you. But if it does sound right for you, here's why we know you'll be able to handle those challenges:

  • You have completed your post-secondary degree or it's in the works; experience in a retail or corporate environment is considered an asset
  • You have an interest in working with merchandise (products) and a basic understanding of how key factors - such as brand, fashion, quality and price - impact consumer buying behavior
  • You have strong problem-solving skills, which include the ability to respond to inquiries about inventory levels and merchandise mix
  • You have intermediate computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word and e-mail
  • You have superior interpersonal abilities and perform effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • You are flexible and can adapt to changing business priorities
  • You have strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize under changing circumstances to ensure commitments are met
  • You have expert verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization

We know some of that might sound a little daunting, but if we're going to meet and exceed our promises to our customers, we have to be committed to hiring the best person for the job.
