New graduates at Nexen are challenged through employment programs which offer three distinct benefits:
- Developmental assignments
Together, these three areas develop technically skilled, confident and innovative employees who have an opportunity to make early contributions to Nexen’s success. This approach reinforces the company culture of continuous learning through meaningful assignments that challenge graduate capabilities.
New graduates in engineering and geosciences have the opportunity to join Nexen as part of the Technical New Graduate Program. Development options in engineering may include reservoir, drilling and completions, production and facilities, while those for the geosciences may include geology, geophysics and petrophysics. Our commitment to the development of our new graduates continues beyond the program through initiatives like the Technical Talent Framework, a career development process that empowers our technical staff to increase their skills and knowledge.
Finance & Accounting
Finance and accounting new grads have the opportunity to join Nexen as a part of the Early Professional Development Program (EPDP). This three-year rotational program provides new graduates with diverse work experiences in areas of finance at Nexen.
Development options include rotations in Treasury, Audit, Canadian Oil & Gas and International Planning.
Nexen is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) as an official CA Training Office. The training consists of a practical experience requirement in which new grads rotate through three, one-year rotations in Nexen departments offering relevant work opportunities that match the CICA competency requirements.
Qualified CAs at Nexen are responsible for overseeing the CA students’ progress and their reporting to the provincial institute, and module-based training, offered by the CA School of Business (CASB), is available throughout the program to help prepare CA students for the UFE.
Nexen occasionally hires new graduates to gain experience in other departments including:
- Human Resources
- Health, Safety, Environment & Social Responsibility
- Supply Management
These developmental programs provide new grads with diverse work experiences in other, non-technical areas of Nexen.
