Nexen's technical summer student program is aimed at students studying engineering, geology and geophysics. During this four-month work term, students are assigned specific projects which give them practical business experience and the opportunity to develop technical skills in their designated field of study.

Position Overview

Start Date: May 2nd, 2017;
Work Term Length: 4 months;
Eligibility: 3rd or 4th year Petroleum/Oil & Gas Engineering Student. Students must be returning to their post-secondary institution after this work term;
Number of positions available: 1;
Business Unit: Ops Services - D&C - Oil Sands - Well Integrity;

Job Duties & Responsibilities

The Oil Sands Well Integrity team is looking for an Engineering Student to assist the team for the summer with Canadian Oil Sands Well integrity activities.  During the work term the applicant will work on various data and research projects relating to oil and water wells in the areas of data management, integrity and planning. The applicant will receive the opportunity to learn about different well types and phases of the well life-cycle by participating in daily operations meetings and through exposure to the related technologies and service providers.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assisting engineering staff with day-to-day technical activities;

• Research and accumulate data on engineering projects;

• Organize data into meaningful charts and tables;

• Work independently on a selected engineering project;

• Document and present results to work group



• Eligible to work in Canada;

• Ability to manipulate data to find correlations and trends;

• Spotfire exposure considered an asset;

• Previous subsurface (Reservoir, Production or Drilling and Completions) engineering and/or field operations experience would be considered an asset
