Nexen's technical summer student program is aimed at students studying engineering, geology and geophysics. During this four-month work term, students are assigned specific projects which give them practical business experience and the opportunity to develop technical skills in their designated field of study.

Position Overview

Start Date: May 1st, 2017;
Work Term Length: 4 months;
Eligibility: 3rd or 4th year Geophysics Students. Students must be returning to their post-secondary institution after this work term;
Number of positions available: 1;
Business Unit: Cdn Ops - RD - Regional Geoscience;

Job Duties & Responsibilities

This Summer Student position will be on the Canadian Resource Development Team.  Our team provides geoscience technical subsurface support to our Oil Sands Assets, NE BC Shale Gas Assets and our US assets (Rockies and Eagle Ford).  Our integrated geoscience team is dedicated and focused on developing a foundational technical understanding in the basins that we operate with accountability for:
(1) Basin Mastery - foundational technical understanding that needs to be in place to define strategy, risk and uncertainty in an investment decisions. Optimize portfolio for key metrics/resource quality. Inform technology or development choices
(2) Provide a fully integrated geoscience interpretation incorporating the most recent geological, seismic, and petro physical interpretation from Nexen and competitor activity.  Accountable for  the parent interpretation to be used for planning and development decisions. 
(3) Integrate seamlessly and with a positive Win Together attitude with all other disciplines to provide timely, relevant and technically sound work to all business functions

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Apply geological knowledge and background and think critically to bring unique and effective solutions to our team;
• Quickly pick up on tools and techniques required to complete the project work;
• Demonstrate resourcefulness by engaging multiple people and skill sets to maximize the value of their project;
• Effectively communicate and present all relevant learning's and observations to bigger technical team.
