Position Overview

Start Date: January 2nd, 2017;
Work Term Length: 8 months;
Education: 3rd or 4th Year Geology Student;
Eligibility: Student must be enrolled in a formal co-op/internship program with their post-secondary institution;
Number of positions available: 1;
Business Unit: Cdn Ops - RD - Regional Geoscience;

Job Duties & Responsibilities

This co-op position will be on the Canadian Resource Development Team. Our team provides geoscience technical subsurface support to our Oil Sands Assets, NE BC Shale Gas Assets and our US assets (Rockies and Eagle Ford). Our integrated geoscience team is dedicated and focused on developing a foundational technical understanding in the basins that we operate with accountability for:
(1) Basin Mastery - foundational technical understanding that needs to be in place to:
a. Define strategy, risk and uncertainty in an investment decision
b. Optimize portfolio for key metrics/resource quality
c. Inform technology or development choices

(2) Provide a fully integrated geoscience interpretation incorporating the most recent geological, seismic, and petrophysical interpretation from Nexen and competitor activity. Accountable for the parent interpretation to be used for:
a. Planning and Development Decisions
b. Reserves Forecasting
c. Resource estimating
d. Reservoir simulation initiatives.

(3) Integrate seamlessly and with a positive Win Together attitude with all other disciplines to provide timely, relevant and technically sound work to all business functions 
The successful candidate will be required to:
(1) Work as a contributing team member in a fast paced multidiscipline environment
(2) Apply geological knowledge and background and think critically to bring unique and effective solutions to our team
(3) Quickly pick up on tools and techniques required to complete the project work 
(4) Demonstrate resourcefulness by engaging multiple people and skill sets to maximize the value of their project. 
(5) Effectively communicate and present all relevant learning's and observations to bigger technical team
