The following student position is a part of IBM Canada's EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. This position is only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term.

*This Student Position resides in Ottawa, Ontario and is a 4-month work term commencing January 2017.

The following job responsibilities for Software Developer, Watson Analytics include: 

IBM® Watson Analytics is a breakthrough natural language-based cognitive service that can provide instant access to powerful predictive and visual analytic tools for businesses. Watson Analytics is designed to make advanced and predictive analytics easy to acquire and use.

We're looking for a front-end developer to help us transform the way enterprise software is presented to our users in IBM Watson Analytics. The ideal candidate should have proven skills in Javascript, HTML and CSS. Familiarity with Node.js and web application frameworks is an asset. You should have an exhibited passion for high-quality execution and attention to detail. Join a team of high performers in a high performing business unit of IBM!

  • Work alongside our multidisciplinary team of developers and designers to create the next generation of enterprise analytics software
  • Optimize front-end code to ensure a consistent and fast experience for our users
  • Create an amazing user experience using the following technologies: Node.js, jQuery, Angular.js, Java 7, HTML 5
  • Implementing a responsive, functional cross-browser user experience
  • Work with designers to prototype early concepts
  • Work with developers to implement best practices, introduce new tools and improve processes
  • Contribute to developing software in an agile, continuous delivery development process.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

  • Interest in user interface design
  • Proficiency in Javascript, HTML and CSS
  • Familiarity with web frameworks
  • Experience handling data using AJAX, JSON and Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communications skills
  • Co-op or internship program enrollment is mandatory

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience:

  • Passion for keeping up-to-date with the latest web technologies and standards
  • Experience and knowledge of the nuances required in creating cross-browser applications
  • Knowledge of the software development cycle

Eligibility Requirements:

This role will involve working with technology that is covered by embargo Export Regulations. If you are a Foreign National from any of the following embargoed countries (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria) on a work permit you are not eligible for employment in this position.
