HSBC is looking for an ambitious, strategic, top performing individual to join the Credit Card team. HSBC Canada Credit Cards is pursuing an aggressive growth agenda to increase market share, key performance drivers and revenue by 2020. This individual will oversee Compliance and Regulatory requirements for the RBWM (Retail Banking & Wealth Management) Credit Card Operations team.

The individual will lead and have ownership of regulatory and compliance initiatives for the Mastercard business. Conduct analysis and develop recommendations for product strategy in conjunction with the Senior Management.

Impact on the Business

  • Responsible for the day to day management of regulatory findings and development
  • Provide recommendations on remediation and issues as required
  • Contribute to business performance and the P&L
  • Responsible for managing the day to day relationship with Legal, Compliance, FCC, Sanctions and other internal HSBC partners
  • Assess vendor performance against Service Levels
  • Contribute to new agreements and providing recommendations on improvements to the business
  • Identify and capitalize on innovative new RBWM product opportunities.
  • Manage partners and stakeholders on an ongoing basis to drive various improvements within the business unit
  • Drive the process improvement agenda for the Canadian Mastercard business

  • Participate in monitoring external conditions, including markets, competition, demographics, and regulations to ensure RBWM products meet customer needs while maintaining market competitiveness and efficiency
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Liaise with Data Analytics to support analytical components to business issues
  • Development of procedures and manual updates to support existing products and new product development/launch.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Liaise with Data Analytics to support analytical components to business issues
  • Manage daily rate and fee pricing processes within set policies.
  • Development of procedures and manual updates to support existing products and new product development/launch.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks.
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

Major Challenges

  • Managing the various compliance work streams and ensuring the business is accurately represented on all fronts

Management of Risk

  • Ensure compliance of both general and anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) compliance controls as well as operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
  • The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organization.
  • This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviors that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators.
  • The jobholder is responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks in their day to day operations. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structure referred to as the 'Three Lines of Defense'. The jobholder should ensure they understand their position within the Three Lines of Defense, and act accordingly in line with operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure of actions required.
  • Through the implementation the Global AML, Sanctions and ABC Policies, supporting Guidance, and Line of Business Procedures the jobholder will make informed decisions in accordance with the core principles of HSBC's Financial Crime Risk Appetite.

Observation of Internal Controls

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures.
  • The term 'compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

Qualifications

Skills & Abilities

  • Degree preferably in Business Administration or business related
  • Strategic thinking capability, ability to analyze complex data points and provide concise recommendations
  • Computer literacy – besides strong abilities re: regular applications e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint must demonstrate an understanding of databases and data mining and extraction tools, statistics, forecasting and ROI analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, especially writing, report creation, analysis reporting and internal communication documents.
  • Problem solving, influence and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to anticipate and act proactively.
  • Previous project management experience an asset
  • High degree of ownership and constructive sense of urgency.
  • Strong sense of Company and business objectives.
