This position is an entry level position with the opportunity to grow over time and it is a great opportunity for a recent graduate. Lack of experience can be made up for with a high level of motivation and the ability to learn fast.

Reporting to the OLRT Surveyor the Surveyor Assistant will be responsible for providing  assistance to the construction surveyor for the timely and efficient completion of field surveys, stake outs, performing Quality Control reviews of subcontractor's works.

This is a term position - four (3) months starting ASAP- November 1, 2017- located in Ottawa, Ontario.

In the position of Surveyor Assistant we would ask you to do the following:

  • Operating survey instruments and devices
  • Follow directives received from Construction surveyor to assist surveying team.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, maintain supplies and ensure necessary physical resources are available in the field, with minimal supervision.
  • To use hand and power tools in order to complete assigned tasks.
  • Follow and implement the Quality Program.
  • Ensure compliance the health and safety policy
  • The list of specific tasks varies depending on what the project needs and request from surveying team

Required skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • High School Diploma, College degree or a graduate of a recognized program related to surveying/engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Work experience would be an asset but not required
  • Knowledge of survey methods
  • The ability to interpret and use information from maps, graphic drawings and measurements taken in the field
  • Valid driver's license is a asset
  • Experience with Robotic Total Stations, GPS, Levels,... (preferably with Leica) is an asset
  • Computer skills and the ability to use AutoCAD (Civil 3D), MicroStation, Leica Geo Office MS Office, MS
  • Excel, are considered an asset
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills with a high level of dependability
  • Physically active and able to work in all weather conditions
  • Candidates must be physically fit and prepared to work on shifts, indoor/outdoor and in in all seasons and weather conditions.
